Flowtech wins contract for extensive bridge upgrade project in Waterford City

Flowtech representatives, including our CEO, Mike England, recently met with councillors from Waterford City Council to sign contracts for remediation works and the upgrade of mechanical and electrical systems of Rice Bridge.

Originally tendered in late 2024, the contracts were officially signed in the presence of the Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Jason Murphy, Mary Butler TD, Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for Mental Health, and John Cummins TD, Minister of State for Local Government and Planning.

From Flowtech, alongside Mike was Ciaran Hallinan, Stephen Raper, Maurice Kearney and Jonathon Padgett, who all played an integral part in bringing this new project to fruition.

Crucial Rehabilitation Project

First opened in 1984, Rice Bridge itself is a vital piece of infrastructure that helps support transportation networks, carrying thousands of vehicles daily and assisting with local commerce routes, public transport and emergency services.

It is also a well-loved landmark, named after Edmund Ignatius Rice, founder of the Christian Brothers and a pioneer in Catholic education.

Unfortunately, the electrical and mechanical components have become vastly out of date in the past four decades, and are in serious need of an upgrade.

Flowtech will embark on upgrading the MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation) systems over the next 15 months, plus an extra 12 months to pick up any snags.
