A Guide to Industrial and Anti-slip Tape Sizes and Applications
Anti-Slip Tape
It’s important to take the proper safety precautions in all industries with regard to slippery surfaces. Not only is new legislation passed through Parliament regularly, but shops, streets and products are just a few categories requiring special attention to safety rules.
To limit occurrences such as trips or falls, and avoid easily preventable accidents, anti-slip tape is a must. It’s possible to find a wide variety of anti-slip tapes to suit safety requirements.

There are many forms of industrial tape. They include adhesive and non-adhesive, and special purpose tapes. In terms of adhesive bonding, industrial tapes are used for packaging, wrapping, masking, thread sealing, electrical insulation, ESD control and more specialised applications.
While adhesive industrial tapes are used for joining materials, non-adhesive and special purpose tapes are used in a wide variety of applications. They include:
- Electrical die or device carrying
- EMI/RFI shielding
- Static discharge control
- X-ray shielding or x-ray photo marking
- Part identification or display protection
- Sealing, seaming and welding
- Floor markings
- Thermal protection
- Bundling cables and products
- Anti-slip tape or friction reduction tape
Selecting Industrial Tape
It’s important to learn about the different types of industrial tapes available before selecting and purchasing them. Along with the physical properties and the dimensions required, other aspects should be considered. These include the carrier material and the adhesive type. Liner or release material are crucial measures for product construction with industrial tape.
Types of Industrial Tape
When selecting industrial tape, choose from the four primary categories of single-sided adhesive tape, double-sided adhesive tape, non-adhesive tape and transfer tape.
Single-Sided Adhesive Tape
Select single-sided adhesive tapes for projects that require only one side of the carrier or backing to be coated with adhesive.
Double-Sided Adhesive Tape
With both sides of the carrier or backing coated with an adhesive, double-sided adhesive tape is useful for specialised applications. It’s possible to purchase this industrial tape with two different pressure-sensitive adhesives used on each side. As a general rule, liners for double-side tapes integrate release liners with distinct coatings.
Non-Adhesive Industrial Tape
There is no adhesive applied to non-adhesive industrial tape. However, this tape can be self-adhering. An example includes PTFE thread-sealing tape, otherwise known as DuPont Teflon® tape.
Transfer Tape
A very adaptable industrial tape, transfer tape is made up of a thin adhesive film that doesn’t require a backing or carrier. It’s easy to transfer to many dry surfaces by peeling off the release liner.
Scapa Tape
The main purpose of Scapa 3259 is as a foam compression sealant. On one side, there’s a coat of acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive. The non-adhesive side features a paper release liner. This product acts as a water seal and an air or dust seal when compressed.
Scapa 2501
An insulation tape, Scapa 2501 provides moisture protection along with electrical insulation for multiple applications. This product offers protection against corrosion on welds and joints. Furthermore, it’s used for the joint and repair of a large range of distribution and power cables up to 46kV. Scapa 2501 makes watertight seals for joining PE sheathed telephone cables above and below ground.
Scapa S3594
A white product, Scapa S3594 is a foam compression sealant similar to Scapa 3259. The foam is predominantly closed celled and it’s a hard foam. One side features an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive and the other features a paper release liner. It acts as an air or dust seal when compressed, and as a water seal.
Self-Adhesive Anti-Slip Tape
Many workplaces and homes require surfaces that are slip-resistant. Self-adhesive anti-slip tape provides the solution. These tapes are strong and high tack, which means that they’re suitable for almost all industrial areas prone to slippery surfaces. Choose from a range of sizes or have them tailor-made to fit any surface.
Water Blocking Tape
Water blocking tape helps to prevent water getting into things such as power and communication cables. Water swellable tapes absorb liquid at the point of insulation failure. Then, they swell quickly to block it further.
Packing Tape
Packing tape is used for sealing requirements with regard to industrial or domestic industries. For example, high-tack tapes are ideal for sealing boxes. Good quality tape is easy to unwind and tear, with immediate adhesion via hand or with a dispenser.
